FAMILY LAW
Divorce
Divorce is an emotional and stressful time in a person's life. However, the love between a man and a woman sometimes fades and everyone ought to be able to live a happy a life. One of the main concerns is that there are often children involved and as parents you want to do what is in your child or children's best interest. If you or your spouse has decided that your marriage is not going to work or is insupportable, contact Shackelford, Hawkins & Associates, P.C. to protect your rights and your future.
Child Custody
Regardless of whether or not parents are married each biological parent has a constitutional right to possession and access of their child as long as the contact between the parent and child is in the child's best interest. If you have a child custody situation, please contact Shackelford, Hawkins & Associates, P.C. to protect your rights and your future.
Child Support
Regardless of whether or not parents are married each biological parent has a duty, under law, to support their child or children. Often times the Texas Attorney General's Office becomes involved in child support situations. If you are involved in a dispute regarding child support, please contact Shackelford, Hawkins & Associates, P.C. to protect your rights and your future.
Modification
It is presumed under Texas law that parents want what is in their child's or children's best interest. Most times legal papers are drawn up, agreed to by the parents and/or conservators signed by the judge and made a final order. However, sometimes a parent or child's situation changes and the Court's order needs to be modified so that the best interest of the child or children is still occurring. If you are involved in a situation where you or the other conservator thinks a Court's order or decree needs to be modified, please contact Shackelford, Hawkins & Associates, P.C. to protect your rights and your future.
Property/Asset Distribution
Texas is a community property state. Assets are generally distributed equally among the parties, however, some circumstances make a 50-50 distribution inequitable. If you are involved in a dispute regarding property/asset distribution, please contact Shackelford, Hawkins & Associates, P.C. to protect your rights and your future.
